Project
Info Sessions - Jan. 19th & 20th
As a group (of more then 18) we decided the best way to have the most amount of people from the community on this project was to slate a time that could accommodate more of us - so we chose.... Tuesdays late day 4-8 in NIC room 108 Then realizing we were running over the dinner hours, we thought about food and came up with the new slogan for the Valley Volunteer Spirit Project as "Bring a Friend - Bring a Snack" When people work together to create the 'Volunteer Spirit' mosaics, they will interact with each other and the community at-large. The Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley, in partnership with Parks and Recreation and North Island College are proud to bring together those creative citizens of our Valley who are interested in creating a collaborative community based artwork that celebrates all the sectors of volunteerism and diversity in the Alberni Valley. This is an unique opportunity to actively participate in a process to enhance your community, to role-model, be a mentor and/or be mentored. Workshops and training, as well as materials will be provided for the selected candidates. We are looking for applicants to include 5 Visual Artists, 5 youth, 5 seniors to work together in teams to produce several mosaic pieces to be installed in a public venue in the Alberni Valley in the summer of 2006. The project would require your creativity, time and commitment for at least 2 afternoons OR evenings per week from February through to March/April. The project coordinator and the Community Arts Council look forward to assisting community members to build a new skill, learn about each other and our community, while also having fun! If you are interested in participating in this project or for more information you can contact and send a short letter of introduction about why you would be a good candidate to participate in the 'Volunteer Spirit' Mosaic project to: Shylene Schlackl
